It’s now late February and you’re starting to come up with excuses for not going to the gym, right? Your New Year resolution was to lose weight or tone up, maybe it was to run a 10K or do a triathlon? Whatever your goal, it’s starting to slip...but don’t worry this is normal!
We all start out with the best of intentions and over time we lose motivation, results don’t come as quick as we thought and we get bored and frustrated. Here are some basic tips from Goldstone, to help you avoid giving up:
1. Make Short Term Goals
A common mistake for those trying to reach a fitness goal is setting too big a goal! We strongly suggest you make smaller, short term goals, every month. This way you get closer to your overall goal every month and feel you’re achieving results.
2. Grab a Friend
One of the best ways to stay motivated is to train with a friend, family member or co-worker. You’ll find that you won’t want to let each other down by not turning up for your gym session or class. You will push each other to keep going and have fun while working out together.
3. Change Your Workout Regularly
Nothing is more boring than doing the same thing over and over again! You should be looking to change your workout every 6 weeks or so, and to vary your workouts to keep your body guessing and burning those calories efficiently. Why not ask an Instructor for a new program or try a fitness class? We have so many classes and such variety of equipment here at Goldstone. You’ll be surprised how mixing it up helps keep the boredom at bay.
4. Hire a Personal Trainer
We have in-house Personal Trainers here at Goldstone and they are here for a reason. Whatever your goal they can help you achieve & smash them! By meeting them regularly for sessions, you will get positive motivation, expert knowledge, smart training advice and a friendly, personal service. Perfect if you are just starting out, need to freshen up your training or have a big life event coming up and want to shape-up. 5. Treat Yourself
Hard-earned benchmarks deserve a reward, so if you've managed 30 minutes on the treadmill or lost those 5 pounds this month, treat yourself! We're not talking about anything that could potentially undo all your hard work, but why not enjoy a manicure or massage? Buy some new workout gear or book a city break. Regularly treating yourself can motivate you to work even harder to reach your goals.
Overall, we say be patient and kind to yourself. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Slow and steady progress is often the path to the greatest results here at Goldstone
